We all have COVID-19 questions.
We have a few answers.

These are, indeed, uncertain, crazy, historic times. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an enormous drain on our entire society, including our employers and candidates. But know this: At Spero™, your health and safety (as well as that of our own employees) is our top priority and we’re doing everything we can to maintain critical business functions while following all government, industry and common sense protocols. That said, here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions on the matter.

For Employers

Does Spero support remote interviewing?

Yes, of course. We have access to all the popular video conferencing platforms, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and more. So when person-to-person isn’t an option, you can still meet your candidates face-to-face.

Do you screen your candidates to ensure they don’t bring the virus into my company?

We promote and follow all CDC and WHO prevention guidelines and work with each client to develop appropriate screening protocols for your work environment. If you don’t have a screening process of your own, we use a general health questionnaire to screen candidates, so we’ll know if they have recently traveled to an at-risk location, if they’ve been recently exposed or if they’ve been ill. Since many of our face-to-face interviews are done via video conference, we cannot take temperatures (or we would).

How can you help protect the safety of my employees?

We’re always about employee safety. During the pandemic, our level of concern and number of provided solutions are heightened appropriately. To that end, we screen as thoroughly as possible, ask all candidates to complete a health questionnaire and ask our employers to follow all guidelines, as well. After all, we’re protecting the safety of our candidates, as well.

What if my company has specific requirements to screen and identify exposed or ill employees?

We work with a large and diverse group of employers, from government agencies to Fortune 500 companies, and we’re committed to each one to respond to their specific and unique needs. Working with you, we will develop appropriate, compliant guidelines for your particular requirements or protocols.

How is Spero ensuring our safety in the workplace?

In short, every way we can. Every day, we work with employers to understand their particular safety protocols and ensure they’re following ours. We’ll let you know exactly what precautions will be taken at your worksite, such as face masks, gloves or mandatory temperature exams. You’ll also be informed of other risk factors like your projected proximity to coworkers. In some cases, we can request remote work, if available. In all cases, your health and safety is our primary concern.

What do I do if I think I’ve been exposed to COVID-19?

If you suspect that you’ve been exposed to the virus, please refrain from self-diagnosing. In some people, COVID-19 may display few or no symptoms. Instead, follow these steps immediately:

  • Call your healthcare professional.
  • Do not report to work until you are properly diagnosed and have received medical confirmation that others will not be put at risk.
  • Follow your normal procedures for reporting an absence – contact your Spero recruiter and/or your client supervisor.

If someone at work has COVID-19, do I have to go to work?

If you have a reasonable belief that your workplace is unsafe because of exposure to the virus, call your Spero recruiter and talk over the best course of action.

In the U.S., employees may refuse to report to work if they believe they are in imminent danger, meaning a condition exists in the workplace that can reasonably be expected to cause death or serious physical harm. In Canada, employees encountering COVID-19 in the workplace may seek to exercise their right to refuse work if the conditions are “likely to endanger” their health or safety under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Will I be paid if I don’t go to work?

As you can imagine, each situation, each candidate and each location is different. The rule of thumb is to call your Spero recruiter to determine if hours or days missed from your assignment due to illness or possible exposure to COVID-19 will be paid or not.
